The results have been unveiled today as part of Atec’s InsureMy Caravan Security Report* https://www.insuremy.co.uk/caravan-security-report highlighting the sad reality of caravan theft:
- Only 11 per cent of stolen caravans were recovered in 2022
- Just 2 per cent of reported thefts resulted in anyone being charged.
- In 7 per cent of cases a suspect was found but charges were dropped
- The worst location to store a caravan to avoid theft is on a farm
- Over 70 per cent of those aged seventy and above have an alarm compared to just 41 per cent of under thirties
- According to the National caravan council there are estimated to be approximately 555,000 caravans in the UK in 2023**
Caravan theft has risen by 7 per cent compared to the same period in 2021***. The research also found that older caravanners (aged 60+) experienced more expensive losses from theft. The average value of theft in over 60s was £6,135 compared to £3,064 in over 20s.
